HPP Wins 2008 Best Nonprofit to Work for Award

February 21, 2009

Sponsored by Opportunity Knocks, the national online job site for the nonprofit community, the awards recognized HPP as one of 15 national winners. HPP won in the category for nonprofits with operating budgets between $2.5 million to $5 million

Winners were selected from nominations based on employee essay submissions. HPP was nominated by HPP Family Case Manager Guadalupe "Lupe" Taylor, who submitted an essay on why she considers HPP to be "an empowerment program."

Why the Homeless Prenatal Program is the Best Place to Work For
By Lupe Taylor
HPP Family Case Manager

I feel honored to work at the Homeless Prenatal Program. I started as a client who was homeless and struggling with life. My success story is featured on the program’s Web site. I always say that I came as a child and have blossomed into an adult.

This agency gives the staff so much opportunity for growth, both educationally and emotionally. We gain knowledge on so many different topics I never would have imagined such as domestic violence, substance abuse, trauma, immigration and the list goes on. I also have seen so many positive outcomes from our clients. We support all of our clients in everything possible. It feels so powerful to know that I not only provide support and hope for clients, but that I, too, am successful.
