Health Fair Celebrates Family Health and Wellness

On August 8, 2008 (the luckiest day of the year, and the opening of the Olympics), the Homeless Prenatal Program welcomed nearly 300 people to our third annual Health Fair.

Children and their parents enjoyed massages, tried acupuncture (offered by the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine), made and tasted healthy yogurt parfaits (with the help of Leah’s Pantry), learned about the Feldenkrais Method of bodywork, got their teeth checked, practiced yoga and created art projects in the art room. They also visited a health screening booth to check their blood pressure, body mass index and glucose levels.

Outside the building, librarians onboard the San Francisco Public Library’s book mobile stopped by, and gave away free books on health and wellness. Kids hopped on board a San Francisco Fire Department’s hook-and-ladder fire truck, and the Firefighters helped children shoot water from the fire hose, and...(Continued on Next Page)
