Taxes for Low Income Families
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP)! We are very excited about our 2009 Free Earned Income Tax Credit Program. As a volunteer in this program, you will be assisting low-income and homeless families' e-file their taxes.
PROGRAM'S HISTORY:
This will be the fourth year that the Homeless Prenatal Program has participated in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) project, preparing taxes online.
Families not only get refunds for taxes paid, but many working families may also be eligible for a little known tax credit if they have children.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for volunteers who enjoy working with people and are interested in helping low income and homeless families. To participate in the program, volunteers must take a free tax training program, online or in a classroom, which will earn you a certification by the IRS. Certification is mandatory to volunteer as a tax preparer. We also have opportunities for interviewers and translators that do not require the IRS certification. Once you have obtained your certification, you are able to assist in e-filing taxes at HPP. Spanish is very useful but not mandatory.
AVAILABILITY:
We are looking for tax preparers starting in January 2009 and going through April 30, 2009. Volunteers must be available either Mondays 4-8pm and/or Wednesdays 1-5pm. Some Saturdays will also be available.
GETTING STARTED:
Please contact Alberto Rosas to volunteer and find out more about earning your certification at (415)546.6756 ext.386 or email at tax-volunteers@homelessprenatal.org.
