March 6, 2008 “We only have four girls this time! The other 15 women are all having boys,” says Serena, making sure there are enough bags for the families. Four times a year, HPP’s Wellness Center offers an eight-week series of free, bilingual prenatal education classes where women learn about and connect with their bodies, prepare for their birth experience and learn about newborn care. The ninth class is a baby shower honoring all of the women and partners who have attended the class. The most recent baby shower in March was hosted by HPP’s good friends Brenda Jewett and Lindsay Bolton. They invited their friends to donate items for the baby shower and the women donated stylish diaper bags overflowing with outfits for newborns and toddlers, blankets, and diapers. The gracious hosts also provided a delicious lunch, featuring chicken, rice and beans, Brenda’s homemade cornbread, a healthy green salad and a beautiful cake baked by one of our favorite volunteers, Betsy Rogers.   |
